The forthcoming construction of lands based on Toy Story and Star Wars at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has resulted in many attractions, merchandise, and dining locations being on the chopping block. Many of these locations are around the Streets of America and will be closing forever after April. 2, 2016:
- Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure
- Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show
- Meet & Greet: Mike and Sulley at Streets of America
- Prop Shop
- Studio Catering Co.
- The Writer’s Stop
- Watto’s Grotto
If you’re familiar with this area of the park, then these closings bring up the looming question of what will happen to MuppetVision 3D and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano? After all, Pizza Planet has long since closed with the tag of “refurbishment”, and Mama Melrose’s and Muppets appear to be the next.
Well, there’s some good news leaking out of Disney that makes it seem like Kermit, Fozzy, Miss Piggy, and others are safe.
The area that comprises MuppetVision 3D, Mama Melrose’s and the former location of Pizza Planet, has long since been unofficially referred to as “Muppet’s Courtyard”. Although this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Disney yet, indications are this area will soon be labeled on park maps as “Muppet’s Courtyard”. If the park maps are changing to designate a Muppets themed area – then we expect they’re here to stay.
Now, what’s to become of the former Pizza Planet Restaurant? Obviously, reopening as Pizza Planet in “Muppet’s Courtyard”, with Toy Story Land sitting on the other side of the park, would be a classic case of fish out of water. We fully expect that Pizza Planet will transformed into a Muppets-themed restaurant – think Swedish Chef – and that a new Pizza Planet will reopen in the future Toy Story Land area.
