Is “Muppet’s Courtyard” Coming To Disney’s Hollywood Studios?

The forthcoming construction of lands based on Toy Story and Star Wars at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has resulted in many attractions, merchandise, and dining locations being on the chopping block. Many of these locations are around the Streets of America and will be closing forever after April. 2, 2016:

  • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure
  • Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show
  • Meet & Greet: Mike and Sulley at Streets of America
  • Prop Shop
  • Studio Catering Co.
  • The Writer’s Stop
  • Watto’s Grotto

If you’re familiar with this area of the park, then these closings bring up the looming question of what will happen to MuppetVision 3D and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano? After all, Pizza Planet has long since closed with the tag of “refurbishment”, and Mama Melrose’s and Muppets appear to be the next.

Well, there’s some good news leaking out of Disney that makes it seem like Kermit, Fozzy, Miss Piggy, and others are safe.

The area that comprises MuppetVision 3D, Mama Melrose’s and the former location of Pizza Planet, has long since been unofficially referred to as “Muppet’s Courtyard”. Although this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Disney yet, indications are this area will soon be labeled on park maps as “Muppet’s Courtyard”. If the park maps are changing to designate a Muppets themed area – then we expect they’re here to stay.

Now, what’s to become of the former Pizza Planet Restaurant? Obviously, reopening as Pizza Planet in “Muppet’s Courtyard”, with Toy Story Land sitting on the other side of the park, would be a classic case of fish out of water. We fully expect that Pizza Planet will transformed into a Muppets-themed restaurant – think Swedish Chef – and that a new Pizza Planet will reopen in the future Toy Story Land area.

Kilimanjaro Safaris “After Dark Experience” Details Released.

There’s lots of buzz and excitement about the forthcoming transformation of Animal Kingdom into what’s described as an “after dark park”. Sure, the main focus is on the new Rivers of Light show, but there’s one big question looming with news that the park hours will be extended to as late as 11:30 pm on many nights –  how will the popular Kilimanjaro Safaris operate after sundown? Here’s some details:

First and foremost, the new “nighttime safari” is not an entirely new attraction, just an extension of the operating hours of the regular (daytime) Kilimanjaro Safaris. Therefore, Disney is not referring to it as a new experience. However, there will be differences in the attraction as day fades into night.

As the sun sets each day, lights that have been added to the savanna will show the effects of an “everlasting sunset”, which could last between 4 and 5 hours each evening. There’s not going to be a set time each day when this gradual transition occurs, as it will depend on the time of year and when the actual sun set begins.

That leads to the big question – what will be different for Guests experiencing this attraction after sundown?

Most notably the ride path will be adjusted and the trucks will make longer stops, giving Guests more time to see the animals in the sunset-lit savanna landscape. We expect that the overall number of animals seen at night will be less, but the longer stops will offer a more in depth viewing experience. The transition from the daytime to the night will also include turning on more of the safari trucks’ exterior lights to ensure the safety of the animals and passengers.

Another key point to note is that once the safaris transitions into the nighttime portion, Guests will be asked to refrain from using flash photography. Additionally, with lower light the nighttime safaris will emphasize sounds that evoke the emotions and ambiance of nighttime on an African safari.

Despite extended park hours at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, not all of the animal experiences will be available after dark. It’s expected that Wilderness Explorers, Maharajah Jungle Trek, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, and the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, will continue to close at sunset.

Disney Releases Night Of Joy Lineup And Ticket Information.

Walt Disney World has announced the performers coming to Night of Joy 2016. Click To Tweet

The two-night Christian-music festival first debuted in the Magic Kingdom in 1983 and stayed there until a two-year period at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2008 and 2009. It returned to Magic Kingdom from 2010 to 2015.

Disney has previously announced that the 2016 edition would be moving from its longtime Magic Kingdom home to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on September 9 and 10. The Sports Complex site will support both indoor and outdoor concerts, performances on multiple stages, including performances at Champions Stadium, where baseball is normally played, and more opportunities for fellowship and fun.

Here’s the 2016 lineup:

Friday, September 9

  • MercyMe
  • Casting Crowns
  • Chris Tomlin
  • Francesca Battistelli
  • Crowder
  • Matthew West
  • Stars Go Dim
  • Zealand Worship

Saturday, September 10

  • Newsboys
  • For King & Country
  • Young & Free

Night of Joy 2016 will have several ticket options, including one with theme-park access. A one-day ticket for Friday events will be $39 in advance, $45 on the day of show. Another choice includes one day at one of the Disney World theme parks and then the Saturday night concerts for $99 (in advance) or $114 (day of show).

Admission to both nights of concerts and one day at a theme park is $119. Folks who buy the two-Day ticket before Aug. 9 will receive one admission to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon water parks, to be used between Sept. 6 and Sept. 12.

The move to the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex should also increase capacity, as both nights sold out last year.

Disney says tickets will go on sale in mid-April. For more information, go to nightofjoy.com.
